States Family Mind....

I was at my parents house yesterday and I was talking with my dad. I was telling him how I had, just the other day watched the movie 'Bye Bye Birdie' on Netflix. When they asked me if I had watched the old version or the remade one I said, " The old one of course, who wants to see a remake of that movie?". Both my parents started to laugh then mentioned how they must be strange parents if all their children enjoy old movies. (we are talking old movies that not really anyone watches anymore.) My dad then started grilling me on who was singing these old Christmas songs that we were listening too. When I started getting them right, he started asking me who was in some old movies that we watched growing up. When I started getting them right, I told him how my older neighbors think it's funny that I know who Danny Kaye, and the Andrews sisters are. They were all surprised that I know who Abbot and Costello are as well.

When my dad was talking about how he must be strange if his children know who these people are, I told him that I think it's just part of the States family gene pool. He looked at me kinda strange and I told him that it's just the way we think. All of us have certain ways the mind is working. It all started with Grandma States I believe. (It may have started earlier, I just don't know anyone else.) She used to say things like, 'Gimmie your face.' when she wanted to wash or wipe your nose. She said alot of things that I have never really heard other people say. As her grandkids have grown-up we tend to use the same phrases without even noticing. I will say something and my mom will look at me with a surprised look on her face. When I ask her why, she says that grandma used to say the same thing.

I also noticed that as cousins we are very close minded as well. I have this fly in my kitchen window. I don't know how he is still living (since it's been so cold!) but he is. I don't know why I haven't swatted him, but I haven't. He just became my little fly buddy. While I was thinking this i thought of my cousin Sara. In alot of ways we are paradox close. But when I saw my fly buddy I thought that this is such a thing that she would do as well. If the fly is in the house, not flying anywhere, not bugging anything, and just trying to live in winter, we just let the fly live. (I haven't named it yet, so don't worry.)

The reason for this blog is just to say that the States family has a strange gene that gets passed around to all of us that connects our minds with oneanother. This all thanks to that wonderful woman that surrounds us all. Louise States.

Cari!!!!! You named it, it is the States Family Mind! I surprise my old neighbor as well with knowing stuff and people from old flics. I showed Harriet most of Bye Bye Birdie on Youtube the other day. Love it! I could still remember almost all the lines. I always say 'hold your horses,' which i thought i remembered grandma saying...did she? I would let the fly live too, at least for now. Ha ha! You crack me up! When are we going to live by each other? Guess that's my fault for now...all in due time. Happy New Year!
