Hiking

We were naughty yesterday. Aaron and I have recently been released from our callings at church and have not received new ones. We decided that since we had no responsibilities to others at church today that we would play hooky. Yes I know that we were naughty, but oh well. We thought that it would be nice to go on a hike with the boys. So Aaron looked up a trail on the computer (everything gets looked up here) and we found a trail that we could even take Zoey the Dog on! We got packed up with a snack and drinks and off we went! We drove to Millcreek canyon where it was full of people on bikes! They let bikers in every even day and yesterday just happened to be the 8th. We drove for what seemed like forever trying to find the trail that we had picked. I think we almost made it to the top of the canyon before we decided to just pull into a parking lot and take that trail. The one we picked just happened to lead to the trail we wanted, so that worked out well. We got Isaac in the hiking backpack and put the snout harness on Zoey (thanx Jill!) and started up the mountain. The boys were having tons of fun running around where they weren't supposed to be. We told them why they needed to stay on the trail, and after that talk they stayed pretty much to the trail. As we hiked we let Zoey off her lead and let her walk with us. It worked out pretty well until she started to get to excited and we had to put her back on. About every 10 min or so we had to watch out for bikers going up or down the trail. I want to say this about the biking manners I saw yesterday.... What has happened to manners? When I would go biking you would warn the people that you were coming! You told them which side you were going to pass, and you slowed down while you passed! The people yesterday did nothing of the sort, they would just come up behind you until you heard or noticed them. Then they would speed passed you as fast as they could. Jerks. Well by the time we thought we should have reached our destination, we had half a mile to go. The boys by this point wanted to turn around and go back, but with just half a mile? I don't think so! Finally we saw it....Dog Lake! (Which was accually Dog Pond). Zoey ran into the water to cool her feet and the boys spend the time throwing rocks into the pond. Aaron tried to teach them how to skip rocks, and Isaac got so dirty! He saw the dogs walking into the water, so he had to as well! We ate some snacks and packed up for the trip home. By the time we reached the car all of us were tired. We looked at the clock and realized we had been hiking for almost 4 hours! That's how long 6 miles takes for a family with 3 small boys. We were tired but had alot of fun!
