Sacrament snack time

I have to ask a question, it's one that I was thinking of just today in Sacrament meeting. Since when did Sacrament meeting become snack time? I don't mean the baggie of goldfish or some other little snack, or the sippy cup for the baby just in case we've done that and I don't think there is anything wrong with little children having a small snack to help them keep quiet during the meeting. Today was something different. Latley I have sat behind different people who have brought nearly a full on picnic for their kids! They bring out the juice boxes, couple granola bars for each child, fruit snacks for everyone including parents, and sandwiches. These are not only for the small children, but for the ones that are Ethan and Andrew's age (7 and 5)! I realize my ward goes at 1pm, but even I remember to feed my kids lunch before church. (If I can remember it then most everyone should!) Can't children play or sit quietly for an hour with out a 3 course meal anymore?! After they eat each item the wrappers just end up on the floor with the parents looking the other way petending to not notice that their children are making a mess of the Sacrament Hall. I think we as parents should learn to find better ways to keep our children quiet for an hour without tons of food! We use coloring books, cars, and church toys that our Aunt Arlyn has made for us. Most of the time they work. This may sound preachy, but I am tired.

We used to sit behind a family that served cheese quesadilla's and yogurt during Sacrament Meeting.....they always made me hungry.

I am in total agreement with you and I have church during lunch (at 11am). A "light" snack is acceptable for the youngest ones, but a complete meal? Really? I remember being happy with one piece of sacrament bread when I was little!
